Old Nancys
I would've liked to have posted these last week for the Nancy Birthday Party, when people were posting fun photos of their Nancy Drew collections. But these aren't actually mine. They are my mother's. (So I guess we'll call this a Mother's Day post!)

I love them because they are old Nancys. I don't actually know that much about telling one printing from another. But I do know that the books were updated between 1959 and 1977, and some of the chapters were cut or edited down. They have 25 chapters, whereas updated!Nancys have only 20 chapters. The famous yellow hardbacks are all updated editions.

One of these days I'm going to do a compare and contrast recap of the editions. But I have to find copies of the updated ones of these.

Until then! I'm posting pictures of the Old Nancys to make you jealous!

MOTHER'S DAY THEME! Did your Mom read Nancy? (Did your Dad?) Ask them if you see your parents this weekend!

Happy Birthday, Nancy Drew! To celebrate, I give you my books!

Ok, not really, but I thought it would be neat if everyone posted pictures of their Nancy Drew collections in honor of her 80th birthday!

Today we're celebrating our favorite sleuth here on LJ. Please post your thoughts and well wishes in the comments, as well as any gifts you might have (icons, art, fic, fanvids, recaps, etc! Anything goes!)

I'd like to say that Nancy taught me a lot growing up. Like that you can get yourself out of trouble with your mind, and it's okay to be nosy as all hell. I can't believe she's an octogenarian now. She doesn't look a day over 16, for godsake. Definitely the hippest old lady I know.

Nancy's 80th?
Does anyone know what day "Secret of the Old Clock" was published on? All I can find is "April 1930" which means sometime this month is Nancy's 80th birthday. I feel like we should've had a party.

Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys Super Mystery: Secrets of the Nile
Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys Super Mystery: Secrets of the Nile

I almost forgot I had this. Why didn’t someone remind me? It’s vitally important that this book is recapped. Why? Because it’s the book where Frank Hardy and Nancy Drew finally make outkiss. It’s the fulfillment of all my childhood shipper dreams and yet I didn’t even know it existed until the advent of this community.

I’ve never read this one before. The cover has the heads of all three of our teenaged sleuths but also, oddly, Frank and Nancy on some kind of late-night camel ride. If this book has them kissing and engaged in a high-speed camel chase, it will be the best book ever.

Insert obligatory 'de nile' joke hereCollapse )

Nancy Drew #142 The Case of Capital Intrigue

There are very few things that I love as much as I love Nancy Drew. Animals, for example, and my sister and the city where I live: Washington, D.C. So imagine my glee when I found this gem; #142, The Case of Capital Intrigue. Nancy’s sleuthing in my hood!! And looking hot on the cover with her dress and wind blown hair. Her South American boyfriend ain’t too shabby either. And they’re on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial! SQUEE!!! I think I may need some oxygen while I read/recap this book.

Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys: The Missing Money Mystery (Be a Detective Mystery Stories #6)
Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys: The Missing Money Mystery (Be a Detective Mystery Stories #6)

This was one of the first books I nabbed back during the Nancy Drew emergency of 2008 (see below). I did not realize that it was a “Be a Detective Story” aka “Choose Your Own Adventure”. So, um, it’s a bit harder to recap but I’m going to attempt it anyway.

Do I get extra points for difficulty?

Anyway! Check out Nancy’s awesome hair at Amazon. Yeah that’s hot.

Nancy Drew Mystery #2 The Hidden Staircase

This is an early Nancy Drew book, which means there’s no George, Bess, Ned, Dave, or Burt. There’s only Helen who gets up getting married and because she is so dependent upon Jim, her husband, she doesn’t have time for Nancy’s silly mysteries anymore after The Mystery At Lilac Inn. This kind of struck a chord with me because my best friend got married this past summer and I feel like our friendship has changed because of it and not in a good way. God, I’m not even married and marriage is ruining my life!

And cover is kind of dull. It’s just her in the staircase and she's wearing a lot of blue.

Hello! I recently acquired the first two seasons of the 70's show The Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mysteries, and it's been suggested I recap here. I'm planning to do the team-up episodes first, but I thought I'd ask if anyone is particularly interested in one over the other.

Episodes are, as follows:

The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Meet Dracula (Parts I and II) - hey, it was the 70's. At least they didn't have a talking dog. This also is the first meeting of the trio. Frank and Nancy are kinda set up to be together from the start. Remember: True love starts with judo-flipping each other.
The Mystery of the Hollywood Phantom (Parts I and II) - In which Frank is jealous and there is a kiss. Gasp! Shock! Canon for the otp win!
Voodoo Doll (Part I and II) - the first episodes with the second Nancy actress, since Pamela Sue Martin left as 1) they weren't going to do any more individual Nancy episodes and 2) she didn't want to play a role where Nancy went, "You guys solve the case and I'll call the cops!" Shockingly, that turns out to be what happens a lot in the episodes after her. They're still fairly enjoyable for the most part, if not the same Nancy I love from Martin's portrayal.
Mystery on the Avalanche Express - Murder on a train. Classic, no?
Arson and Old Lace - Tiny Frank/Nancy shipping hearts will enjoy this, if fume at the writers for some, uh, particularly moronic decisions.

Preferences, if any?

Forgive me if this isn't allowed, hermione_like, but I was browsing the requests at DonorsChoose.org and I found this one which is requesting money to buy Nancy Drew graphic novels and thought of this community. I donated $25. It's a really good site. Teachers post what they need and people from all over can help them out.

#8 Nancy's Mysterious Letter
I spent the weekend with food poisoning so in between bouts of nausea, I managed to get some reading done. If Nancy were here, she’d probably turn it into a mystery and we’d uncover a jewel theft that was using the sushi restaurant near my apartment to smuggle the jewels. Or something like that.

Part 2 of #42, The Invisible Intruder
Last time we saw Nancy, she was freaking out because her beloved had been Ned-napped and there are shells. Lots and lots of expensive shells.

Nancy Drew Mystery #46, The Invisible Intruder...Part 1
Hi, everybody! Well, I’ve posted several recaps on the 1bruce1 community, but this is my first Nancy Drew recap. It’s hard to snark on Nancy because she’s…well, she’s Nancy, but I’ll give it a shot!
